August Highlights
On August 1st Gull Wings welcomed the youth music and dance programs of Inlakech Cultural Arts Center for a special performance.
August 9th Gull Wings featured a Science Explorers Special Event with Dr. Andrea Neal
We explored the world’s oceans with a real life ocean scientist! Dr. Neal shared her stories and pictures from her many journeys to study the world’s oceans. After a short presentation, children created their favorite ocean creatures out of clay. Dr. Andrea Neal is President and Founder at Blue Ocean Sciences and a Science Advisor for Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society. Most recently Dr. Neal has helped to create Ocean Lovers Collective, a for-profit based company which will fund and promote accurate and sustainable efforts to maintain and increase ocean access and health.
August 6th was “Robotics Day” at Gull Wings
Which featured a visit from MRFy the Recycling Robot sponsored by Republic Services of Oxnard. This was one of our busiest days of the Summer. “Robotics Day” also included hands-on activities provided by Rich & Joan Borgioli with RTS Robotics. Children were able to view the components of a Robot and see how the Robot “brain” interacts to sight, sound, touch and light. Several hands-on demonstrations were available like: “Meet and Greet”, “Move, Shoot and Score” and “Robot Movements”.
